Printing from the Macintosh Client

Follow the procedure below to operate a Macintosh client to print via the RIP server.If you register the RIP server as a network printer on the client, you will be able to send the print data to the RIP server.
This section explains how to set up the RIP server and the client when the server runs Windows Vista.

Step 1: Prepare the RIP server


Configure the settings for processing the printing data received from clients in the [Queue Properties] window.

  1. Double-click or .
    The [Queue A (B) Properties] window appears.
  2. Click , and then select one of the following settings from the [Action for Incoming Jobs] list box.
    Do Nothing
    Neither RIP processing nor printing is performed when a new job is added to the job list.
    RIP and Print
    Both RIP processing and printing are automatically performed when a new job is added to the job list.
    RIP Only
    Only RIP processing is automatically performed when a new job is added to the job list.
  3. Click [OK].

Step 2: Configure the client settings

 

The setting method of a client  
  1. Load the Roland VersaWorks Dual DVD-ROM into the DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Double-click [VersaWorks Dual] on the desktop.
  3. Copy the file.

    【Mac OS X 10.9 or later】

    • Select the [For Macintosh] - [PPD File] - [OS10.9 or later] - [English] folder, and then copy the [Roland VersaWorks Dual.PPD] file to any location on the computer.

    【Mac OS X from 10.5 to 10.8.5】

    • Select the [For Macintosh] - [PPD File] - [OS10.8 or ealier] - [English] folder, and then copy the [Roland VersaWorks Dual.PPD] file to any location on the computer.

  4. Open [System Preferences] - [Print & Fax].
  5. Click .
  6. Click [Windows]. A list appears immediately below. Select the network group that the computer belongs to from the list.
  7. Select the name of the RIP server's computer from the list.
  8. If you are prompted for user name and password, enter the user name and password for the RIP server, and then click [OK].
  9. Select [RolandVWD (nickname of the printer you want to use)] from the list, and then select [Others] from the [Driver] pop-up menu.
  10. Select the PPD file that you copied in step 3, and click [Open].
  11. Click [Add].

Step 3: Start printing

Start printing using an application on the client.
Select [RolandVWD (nickname of the printer you want to use)] as the printer.If [Authentication required] appears in the printer's status indication, click [Resume] and enter the user name and password for the RIP server.
Printing operations vary depending on application. Refer to the documentation of your application.

Tip Changing the Share Name for the Printer

You can change the share name of the printer on the RIP server.
  1. From the [Start] menu, click [Control Panel], then click [Print and Fax].
  2. Select the printer to change, then right-click it.
  3. Click [Sharing].
    The properties window for the printer to change appears.
  4. Click the [Sharing] tab.
  5. Change the [Share name] setting.
  6. Click [OK].
This completes the share name for the printer.
