Printing from the Windows Client

Follow the procedure below to operate a Windows client to print via the RIP server.

Check the following before operating the printer.

Step 1: Prepare the RIP server
Step 2: Configure the client settings
Step 3: Start printing

Step 1: Prepare the RIP server

Follow the procedure below to configure the settings for printing data received from clients in the [Queue Properties] window.
  1. Double-click or .
  2. Click , and then select one of the following settings from the [Action for Incoming Jobs] list box.
    Do Nothing
    Neither RIP nor printing is performed when a new job is added to the job list.
    RIP and Print
    Both RIP and printing are automatically performed when a new job is added to the job list.
    RIP Only
    Only RIP is automatically performed when a new job is added to the job list.
  3. Click [OK].

Step 2: Configure the client settings

The configuration method varies depending on the operating system used on the client.

Windows Vista
Windows 2000/XP
Windows 95/98/Me/NT4.0

Windows Vista

  1. While the RIP server is running, log on to the client computer as an administrator.
  2. Click [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Add a printer].
  3. The [Add New Printer] window appears. Click [Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer].
  4. Click [The printer that I want isn't listed].
  5. Select [Browse for a printer] or [Select a shared printer by name], and then click [Next].
  6. Select the name of the computer that is set as the RIP server, and then click [Select].
  7. Select [RolandVWD (nickname of the printer you want to use)], and then click [Select].
  8. Uncheck the [Set as the default printer] check box, and then click [Next].
  9. Print a test page if necessary, and then click [Finish].

Windows 2000/XP

  1. While the RIP server is running, log on to the client computer as an administrator.
  2. Windows XP
    Click [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Printers and Other Hardware] - [Printers and Faxes] - [Add Printer].
    Windows 2000
    Click [Start] - [Settings] - [Printer] - [Add New Printer].
  3. If [Add Printer Wizard] appears, click [Next].
  4. Select [Network printer], and then click [Next].
  5. Select [Browse for Printer], and then click [Next].
  6. From the [Shared printers] list, select [\\(computer name of the RIP server)\RolandVWD (nickname of the printer you want to use)], and then click [Next].
  7. If the [Connecting Printer] window appears, click [Yes].
  8. In the [Default Printer] window, select [No], and then click [Next].
  9. Click [OK].

Windows 95/98/Me/NT4.0

  1. Load the Roland VersaWorks Dual DVD-ROM into the DVD-ROM drive.
    If the installation window appears, click [X] to close it.
  2. Open [My Computer], check that the DVD-ROM drive shows [VersaWorks Dual], right-click the DVD and select [Open].
  3. Open the [\PrinterDriver\English\Windows95_98_NT] folder, and then double-click [PSDriver_ENG].
    Adobe PostScript driver installer starts.
  4. Click [Next], read the license agreement, and then click [Agree].
  5. Select [Connect to network (Network printer)], click [Next], and then click [Browse].
  6. From the [Browse for Printer] list, select [\\(computer name of the RIP server)\RolandVWD (nickname of the printer you want to use)], click [OK] ,and then click [Next].
  7. Click [Browse], specify the DVD-ROM drive, open the [\PrinterDriver\English\Windows95_98_NT] folder, select [RolandVWD (nickname of the printer you want to use)], and then click [OK].
  8. Check if [RolandVWD (nickname of the printer you want to use)] is selected, and then click [Next].
  9. Perform a test printing if necessary, and then click [OK].

Step 3: Start printing

Start printing using an application on the client.
Be sure to select [RolandVWD (nickname of the printer you want to use)] as a printer.
Printing operations vary depending on application. Refer to the documentation of your application.
